M-Series surface types explained

Every M-Series mat has a top surface chosen for a job. The short version: black/yellow surfaces flag the edge for busy aisles, grey surfaces suit cleaner areas, and blue Smooth is the ESD bench surface. Here's what each one is and the floor and use it suits.

Black / yellow

High-visibility

Elephant Skin (M1) and Diamond Plate (M2) flag the mat edge at floor level for trip safety in busy production aisles.

Grey & blue

Clean & ESD

Grid and Bubble (grey) suit cleaner office and inspection areas; Smooth (blue) is the static-safe ESD bench surface.

Match the surface

Which surface for your need

If you need… Surface Where
All-day standing comfort Bubble (grey) M2 comfort or M4 ESD floor
High-visibility trip edge in a busy aisle Elephant Skin or Diamond Plate (black/yellow) M1 or M2
Full-shift production grip Diamond Plate (black/yellow) M2
Clean office, reception, or inspection look Grid or Bubble (grey) M1 or M2
Static-safe fine work at a bench Smooth (blue) M3 ESD bench
Static-controlled standing on the floor Bubble (grey) M4 ESD floor

How the range splits

Comfort mats vs ESD mats

Comfort (M1 & M2): M1 and M2 are anti-fatigue comfort mats. M1 carries Elephant Skin (black/yellow) and Grid (grey); M2 carries Diamond Plate (black/yellow) and Bubble (grey). Choose black/yellow for a high-visibility trip edge in busy aisles, or grey for a cleaner office and inspection look. For help picking between the two, see the M1 vs M2 guide.

ESD (M3 & M4): M3 is an ESD bench mat with a Smooth blue surface for fine work on sensitive components. M4 is an ESD anti-fatigue floor mat using the grey Bubble surface for static-controlled standing. Both are ESD compliant in the 10^6–10^9 ohm static-dissipative range. See the M3 vs M4 ESD guide to choose.

FAQ

Common questions

Which M-Series surface is most comfortable for standing?

For prolonged standing, the Bubble surface gives the highest underfoot comfort thanks to its domed, bubble top. It appears in grey on the M2 comfort mat and on the M4 ESD anti-fatigue floor mat. M1's Elephant Skin and Grid surfaces give light-to-medium duty comfort, while M2's Diamond Plate is a firmer, grippier surface for full-shift production. If all-day standing comfort is the priority, choose a Bubble-topped mat.

Black/yellow vs grey — what's the difference?

It's about visibility, not just looks. The black-with-yellow-edge surfaces (Elephant Skin on M1 and Diamond Plate on M2) flag the mat edge at floor level, so they suit busy production aisles where a high-visibility trip edge improves safety. The grey surfaces (Grid on M1 and Bubble on M2) give a cleaner look for offices, reception, and inspection areas where a high-visibility edge isn't needed.

Which surface should I use for an electronics or ESD bench?

Use the Smooth blue surface on the M3 ESD bench mat. It's a flat, static-safe surface designed for fine work on sensitive electronic components at a bench. For static-controlled standing areas on the floor, the M4 ESD anti-fatigue floor mat uses the grey Bubble surface. M3 and M4 are both ESD compliant in the 10^6 to 10^9 ohm static-dissipative range.

Does surface type affect cleaning and grip?

Yes. Textured surfaces like Elephant Skin and the aggressive Diamond Plate give more grip underfoot for busy production aisles, while the Smooth blue ESD bench surface is flat for fine component work. The grey Grid and Bubble surfaces suit cleaner office and inspection areas. Always follow the routine-cleaning guidance on each product's datasheet for the specific surface you choose.
