M1 vs M2 anti-fatigue matting: how to choose

M1 and M2 are the two comfort floor mats in Maximum Matting's M-Series. They look similar but solve different problems. The short version: M1 for part-shift standing, M2 for full 8-hour shifts. Here's how to pick with confidence.

Beyond the badge

Surface and format both matter

Surface: M1's Elephant Skin and M2's Diamond Plate come in black with yellow safety edges that flag the mat at floor level — ideal for busy production aisles. The grey Grid (M1) and Bubble (M2) finishes suit cleaner, office, or inspection areas where a high-vis edge isn't needed.

Format: both ranges come as fixed-size standard mats, full rolls for long runs, and cut-to-length by the metre. One workstation? A standard mat is simplest. A continuous line or bench run? Roll or cut-to-length avoids gaps and trip edges. If you're not sure how much you need, our sizing & coverage guide walks through measuring up.

FAQ

Common questions

What's the difference between M1 and M2 anti-fatigue mats?

Both are European-made anti-fatigue comfort floor mats. M1 is light-to-medium duty, designed for standing shifts of up to around 3 hours or alternating sit-stand work. M2 is medium duty, engineered for full 8-hour standing shifts in assembly, packing, and production. M2 uses a denser construction and a more aggressive surface, so it costs more and lasts longer under continuous standing.

Which anti-fatigue mat is best for an 8-hour standing shift?

M2. It is purpose-built for full-shift standing in production and assembly environments, with very high pressure distribution and bounce-back for all-day comfort. M1 is better suited to part-shift or alternating standing such as retail counters and sit-stand desks.

Do M1 and M2 come in different surfaces and colours?

Yes. M1 comes in an Elephant Skin surface (black with yellow safety edges) and a Grid surface (grey). M2 comes in a Diamond Plate surface (black/yellow) and a Bubble surface (grey). The black/yellow options highlight the mat edge for trip safety; the grey options suit cleaner, office-style or inspection areas.

Can I buy M1 and M2 as rolls or cut to length?

Both ranges are available as standard fixed-size mats, full rolls, and cut-to-length per linear metre, so you can match a single workstation or run a continuous mat along a line. Cut-to-length and roll orders are confirmed by the sales team before processing.
